Honoring Our Roots Through Art: A Family Legacy

Sweet Bee Artisan Boards may be a new beginning, but the passion behind it has been with Shawn and me for generations. Our journey into this venture is deeply connected to the rich artistic traditions that have been passed down through our families. From music and poetry to visual arts and design, creativity has always been woven into the fabric of our lives.

My grandfather’s calligraphy

A key figure in this legacy was my late grandfather, a master of Chinese calligraphy whose work was a beautiful fusion of language and faith. His brushstrokes were more than just marks on paperβ€”they were expressions of his soul, each piece a harmonious blend of thought, prayer, and artistry. Growing up surrounded by his work, I was deeply influenced by his ability to transform simple verses into elegant, meaningful art.

As I reflect on the inspiration behind Sweet Bee Artisan Boards, my grandfather’s work stands out as a profound influence. His dedication to his craft, his unwavering faith, and his love for beauty have all shaped the values that Shawn and I carry into our woodworking. This isn’t just about creating products; it’s about honoring the legacy of those who came before us, those who instilled in us a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and a desire to create something meaningful.

My grandfather’s art with poetry

As we continue to build Sweet Bee Artisan Boards, we look forward to sharing more about our journey and the inspirations that guide us. This is a new chapter for us, and we’re grateful to have you along for the ride as we explore what it means to create with heart, rooted in the heritage that has shaped us.

If you’re on Facebook, we’d love for you to follow us there. We post updates about our journey, share stories about our craft, and give you a glimpse into what makes Sweet Bee Artisan Boards special.

Thank you for joining us on this path.

With love,

  1. These are beautiful. I always love to see these silks in tha local art museum. The heratige is wonderful, but I always wonder If these were created as art or as boring history texts. Time changes everything. πŸ€£πŸ˜ŽπŸ™ƒ

    • Thank you. The first photo with his calligraphy features a bible verse; the second is a short nature-themed poem that went with his drawing. In general, my grandpa’s art focused on what was important to him, which was his faith. πŸ™‚
