From music notes to love notes: Dr. Chi is engaged!

Life has a way of bringing people back into one another’s lives at the most unexpected times.

Nearly 30 years ago, Shawn was beginning his career as a band director, and Phoebe was one of the many students who passed through his music program. At the time, their connection was simply that of a teacher and student brought together by music. Neither could have imagined that, decades later and after living entirely separate lives, their paths would cross again under profoundly different circumstances.

Over the years, they each followed their own calling, experienced life’s joys and challenges, and grew into the people they were meant to become. When they reconnected as adults nearly three decades later, they approached one another not as the people they had once been, but as two individuals meeting again in a completely new season of life.

What began as a renewed acquaintance gradually developed into a meaningful relationship rooted in trust, shared values, mutual respect, and a love for God that continues to guide their path.

Embracing Imperfection: Our Journey of Transformation

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the idea of imperfection and how it plays such a profound role in our lives. At Sweet Bee Artisan Boards, Shawn and I have found ourselves drawn to rustic lumber—wood that many would consider flawed or imperfect. But as we’ve worked with these boards, I’ve come to see them as a powerful analogy for our own journeys, both as individuals and as partners.

A New Chapter Begins: Sweet Bee Artisan Boards has a Home Online

Dear friends,

I’m happy to share a special milestone with you today—our official website for Sweet Bee Artisan Boards (SweetBeeBoards.com) is now live! Shawn and I are truly grateful to have a space where we can share more about who we are, the inspiration behind our work, and the story that brought Sweet Bee to life.

Although our online store isn’t quite ready yet, and there are no products available for purchase just now, we’ve filled the site with details about our journey, our values, and what motivates us to create. We’ve also started a blog on the site, where we try to share daily updates, stories, and reflections as we walk this path together.

The Heart and Craft Behind Sweet Bee: Our Story

Hi Friends! If you’ve been following along, you might have seen that Shawn and I recently introduced Sweet Bee Artisan Boards. I’ve shared a bit about our new adventure, but today I want to give you a closer look into something a little more personal.

For those who know me primarily as a physician blogger, this may seem a bit different from my usual posts. But Sweet Bee is incredibly special to me—especially because it’s something I’m building with Shawn, who is not only my partner in this venture but also the love of my life (!!)

Shawn is the craftsman behind Sweet Bee. He pours so much care into every piece, spending thoughtful hours in the workshop carefully selecting the perfect wood and turning it into something special. His dedication to his craft is inspiring, and it’s what makes each board unique and full of character. I’ve always admired the love and attention to detail he brings to everything he creates.

While Shawn is busy creating, I’ve taken on the role of sharing our story with you—through blog posts, Facebook updates, and plenty of loving support. Our love for family heritage and creativity drives us to ensure that Sweet Bee isn’t just about the boards—it’s about the stories, values, and memories that each piece represents. And yes, the name “Sweet Bee” comes from my nickname, “Bee,” adding a personal touch to everything we do!
