There descends a great hush after the breaking—
when the earth lies colder than the heavens above,
and each breath is weighted with the sorrow of endings.
Behind you rest the shattered relics of what once was,
before you stretches a path draped in shadow,
and all seems surrendered to silence.
Yet even here, within the stillness of desolation,
strength begins its hidden labor.
For the fall is never the final decree.
What lies in fragments is not without meaning;
what lies in silence is not without song.
You rise not as you were before,
but tempered and transfigured—
bearing within you the solemn wisdom of descent,
the unshaken poise of one who has endured.
And when your steps return to the waiting path,
they carry the measured cadence of resilience,
the quiet majesty of a soul refined through fire.
So let the dust bear witness and the silence testify:
though brokenness sought to claim you,
you are not undone.
You rise—
and in the rising,
you are made whole once more,
borne into the light with a strength
that can never be taken away.

Truly a lovely poem.
This poem has profoundly resonated with me speaking directly to the depths of my soul. The way you’ve knitted words together to convey the darkness and silence of desolation yet simultaneously hinting at the hidden labor of strength and resilience is truly masterful. As I read through your lines I felt seen and understood like you were articulating the very emotions and struggles I’ve been grappling with. What I’m learning from this poem is the importance of perseverance and the transformative power of adversity. Your words remind me that even in the midst of endings and shattered relics there lies a deeper meaning and a song waiting to be sung. I’m struck by the beauty and hope that permeates this poem and it’s teaching me to approach challenges with a sense of expectation and trust that I will emerge tempered and transfigured bearing within me a quiet majesty and resilience that cannot be taken away. Your poem is a powerful reminder that I am not undone by brokenness but rather I am being made whole once more and for that I’m deeply grateful. 🙏
Thank you so much, Thobile, for these deeply moving words. It is humbling to know the poem resonated in such a meaningful way. Your reflections on perseverance, resilience, and the quiet strength that emerges through adversity are themselves a beautiful testament to the human spirit. May wholeness and hope continue to shine through every challenge, and may the quiet majesty you described be a constant companion on the journey. 💛
My pleasure 😊
